Wyrnrwood: Road of the Dead is a nice little Ozploitation film that is an amalgam of The Road Warrior and Dawn of the Dead. That description should let you know whether or not this is a film for you. The movie starts off with a zombie outbreak and focuses primarily on a husband who is widowed due to the outbreak and an attractive female who shares a bond with him and the zombies that becomes known as the story progresses.
There isn’t a lot to be said about this film. It’s a horror/action hybrid that hits all the high notes, but feels a bit shallow. Low budget films have a habit of using jump cuts to overshadow their limitations and this film is no exception. Despite that, Wyrmwood is a very entertaining film that doesn’t cheap out on the gore FX, which is the reason for watching this. First time director Kiah Roache-Turner shows a great deal of enthusiasm and talent for the genre and the leads Jay Gallagher and Bianca Bradey do a solid job as a deadly duo. Despite feeling a bit hollow, this is a very entertaining film that is well worth watching for fans of Dead Alive and The Evil Dead. I expect big things from the director, especially with another film in the works as well as a sequel to Wyrmrwood.
